Welcome to the website of Energy Sustainability Focus Group (ESFG)
Research in sustainable energy and environment has become our thrust area since our establishment in early 2011. While the research outcomes and deliverables may take a long time to be felt and reap their benefits, we feel that after two years of existence, the Energy Sustainability Focus Group (ESFG) has reached its adolescent age to move up another level – to contribute to the nation and society in providing knowledge and perspectives in a more understandable and less technical manner based on the technological and policy research work that we pursue.
This website is initially planned to act as a platform to project the research work that we conduct and disseminate our publications and articles as an essential part of our academic life, and at the same time acting as a media to receive and respond back valuable inputs and views globally. We are now using this website also as a medium to reach out to the nation and to the community at large on the essence of sustainability in the energy systems.
When our Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri MohdNajibTunRazak announced at the United Nations Framework on Climate Change (UNFCC) 15th Conference of Parties (COP15)in Copenhagen in December 2009 Malaysia’s aspiration to voluntarily cut down its greenhouse gas emissions together with the Annex 1 nations of Kyoto Protocol (albeit with support from the developed countries), most knowledgeable Malaysian citizens were caught by surprise at this ambitious pledge. The Energy Sustainability Focus Group is taking this historic announcement as our driving forceto demonstrateto the world that we can, and we shall do it. “Malaysia Boleh” is the philosophy that ESFG embeds in our spirit, and we aspire to carry out our national responsibility dutifully.
